Zander's Scones

Zander first made these when he was eight. A simple, easy-to-make plain scone recipe that is always a winner.

Serves: 6-8

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

225g self-raising flour

50g butter

25g sugar

150ml milk

Method:

1. Heat oven to 200°C and cover baking trays with baking parchment.

2. Put flour into a large bowl and add the butter - chop into chunks with a floured knife..

3. Rub in the butter.

4. Stir in the sugar.

5. Start to add the milk a little at a time. Mix with a fork until it all comes together in a thick dough.

6. Turn onto floured surface and knead lightly.

7. Roll out gently until about 2cm thick.

8. Cut out scones and place on the baking tray.

9. Gather up and gently knead together the off cuts. Roll out again. and cut more scones.

10. Brush the tops with a little milk.

11. Bake for 10-14 minutes until risen, golden and sounding hollow.

Cool on a wire tray.
